Are you considering becoming a vocational nurse (also known as a licensed practical nurse)? Not to dissuade you, but LPN positions in hospitals are actually declining, even though nursing jobs are still in high demand nationwide. However there is still a demand for LPN positions in home health and long term care facilities.

What is the income like for vocational nurses? Expect something in the range of the mid $30,000 per year range. Contract LPN’s made the most money while doctors office nurses made the least. An LPN certificate can be completed in less than a year. Course work in an LPN program may include the following courses: anatomy, physiology, nutrition, biology, chemistry, obstetrics, pediatrics and first aid.
